DotStar LED strips are a significant enhancement over traditional NeoPixels, allowing faster data transmission via a generic 2-wire SPI system, which eliminates the need for precise timing. These strips offer a higher PWM refresh rate, reducing flicker, especially at low brightness levels, making them perfect for applications like Persistence-of-Vision (POV).

Featuring 5050-sized LEDs with embedded microcontrollers, each DotStar LED supports 24-bit color, allowing for intricate color control. The LEDs handle PWM internally, so you only need to send color data once. With a remarkable 20 KHz PWM rate, the results are seamless, vibrant displays without noticeable pixelation.

The flexible design allows easy customizations: cut every 0.65"/1.7cm or connect multiple strips for extended runs. DotStars come with weatherproof sheathing for durability, suitable for indoor or outdoor projects. Simply solder to 0.1" copper pads for a quick setup.

Available in 30, 60, and 144 LEDs per meter configurations, these strips come on 4-meter reels and are sold by the meter. Use a 5V DC power supply for optimal performance, but avoid voltage exceeding 6V to prevent damage. For hassle-free wiring, consider using JST SM connectors and optional 2.1mm DC jacks for connecting power supplies.
