SparkFun Thing Plus - ESP32 WROOM (U.FL)

The SparkFun ESP32 Thing Plus with U.FL is an advanced, yet user-friendly product that makes Espressif IoT projects easier and more efficient. This powerful MCU module features a WiFi and Bluetooth system that is adaptable for a multitude of applications. The ESP32-D0WDQ6 chip at its heart is designed to be both scalable and adaptive. The Thing Plus is Feather compatible and utilizes the Qwiic Connect System, eliminating the need for soldering or shields to connect it to your system.

The SparkFun ESP32 Thing Plus is affectionately known as the “Thing” because it is the perfect base for any Internet of Things project. The Thing can perform a range of tasks, from illuminating an LED to posting data with your chosen platform. It can be programmed just like any microcontroller and can even be programmed through the Arduino IDE by installing the updated ESP32 Arduino Core.

The Thing Plus integrates a wide range of peripherals, including capacitive touch sensors, SD card interface, Ethernet, high-speed SPI, UART, I²S and I²C. With the onboard ESP32 WROOM module, the Thing Plus offers 16MB of flash memory, 520kB of internal SRAM, an integrated 802.11 BGN WiFi transceiver, dual-mode Bluetooth capabilities, a JST connector for a LiPo battery, and a U.FL connector for your own antenna.

The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is an ecosystem of I²C sensors, actuators, shields and cables that simplify prototyping and reduce errors. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector, which minimizes the required PCB space and ensures correct connections with its polarized design.

The Thing Plus - ESP32 WROOM (U.FL) features 21 multifunctional GPIO, including thirteen 12-bit ADC Channels, two DAC channels, sixteen PWM outputs, eight capacitive touch pins, three SPI Busses, an available I²S Audio Output, two I²C Busses and two UARTs. Its dimensions are 6.477cm x 2.286cm with four 4-40 screw compatible mounting holes. It also includes a micro-B USB Connector, 2-pin JST Connector for a LiPo Battery, 4-pin JST Qwiic Connector, a yellow battery charging indicator, a blue status/test LED, and two buttons.

The ESP32 WROOM (U.FL) operates at a voltage of 2.3 to 3.6 V, with a 2.5 µA deep sleep current and 80 mA average operating current. It operates at temperatures between -40 to 85 °C and features a Xtensa® Single-Core 32-bit LX6 Microprocessor (up to 240MHz), 448KB of ROM and 520KB SRAM, 16MB of Embedded SPI flash storage, an integrated 802.11b/g/n WiFi 2.4GHz transceiver, integrated dual-mode Bluetooth (classic and BLE), and hardware accelerated encryption (AES, SHA2, ECC, RSA-4096).
