Through the SparkFun Thermocouple Breakout, you can read temperatures ranging from -200°C to +700°C at the thermocouple's hot junction, with an accuracy of ±2°C. The cold junction, located inside the MAX31855K, offers a range from -20°C to +85°C, also maintaining ±2°C accuracy. The device continuously measures the temperature of the cold junction with an internal temperature-sensing diode. It requires a power source from +3.0V to +3.6V (+3.0V nominal) and draws a maximum of 1.5mA.
The Thermocouple Breakout is designed to accommodate a standard thermocouple connector, offering convenience and compatibility with probes you may already possess. Alternatively, you can solder a thermocouple directly into the through-holes labeled '+' and '-'. If you choose this option, it is recommended to mount the thermocouple for strain relief to prevent wire breakage. Notches for a zip-tie or wire wrapping are provided in the PCB opposite the header for this purpose.
