The AD8232 is a comprehensive signal conditioning block for ECG and other biopotential measurement applications. It's designed to extract, amplify, and filter small biopotential signals, even in challenging conditions such as those caused by motion or remote electrode placement.
The AD8232 Heart Rate Monitor offers nine connections from the IC. These connections can be soldered to pins, wires, or other connectors. Essential pins for operation with an Arduino or other development board, such as SDN, LO+, LO-, OUTPUT, 3.3V, GND are included. The board also features RA (Right Arm), LA (Left Arm), and RL (Right Leg) pins for attaching custom sensors. An LED indicator light pulsates in rhythm with a heartbeat, providing a visual representation of heart activity. To use the heart monitor, Biomedical Sensor Pads and Sensor Cable are required.
Caution: The AD8232 SparkFun Single Lead Heart Rate Monitor is not a medical device and should not be used as one or as an accessory to one. It is not designed to diagnose or treat any conditions. It's recommended to power the monitor with a battery to avoid potential issues with a current loop when connected to the electrical grid. If grid power must be used, additional protection can be provided via the SparkFun Opto-isolator Breakout.
