SparkFun MicroMod RP2040 Processor

The SparkFun MicroMod Pi RP2040 Processor Board is a high-performance, cost-effective board that features the Raspberry Pi Foundation's RP2040 microcontroller. This board offers flexible digital interfaces and is easily connected through the MicroMod M.2 connector. The board is equipped with dual ARM Cortex-M0+ processors that can run up to 133MHz, 264kB of embedded SRAM in six banks, and 30 multifunction GPIO. It also supports both C/C++ and MicroPython cross-platform development environments.

The RP2040 board also features 6 dedicated IO for SPI Flash which supports XIP, and four 12-bit ADC channels with an internal temperature sensor. It can function as both a USB 1.1 Host and Device. The RP2040 is ideal for signal processing and video, due to its two symmetric cores and high internal bandwidth. While the chip has a significant amount of internal RAM, the board includes an additional external flash chip for even more storage space.

The MicroMod ecosystem is a modular interface that connects a microcontroller “processor board” to various “carrier board” peripherals. The MicroMod standard is designed to easily swap out processors on the fly. This makes it easy to pair a specialized carrier board for the project you need with your choice of compatible processor. However, note that the RP2040 is not compatible specifically with the Machine Learning Carrier Board.

The RP2040 board features dual Cortex M0+ processors that can run up to 133 MHz, 264 kB of embedded SRAM in 6 banks, and 6 dedicated IO for QSPI flash that supports execute in place (XIP). It also has 30 programmable IO for extended peripheral support, a timer with 4 alarms, a real-time counter (RTC), and USB 1.1 Host/Device functionality. It supports programming languages like MicroPython and C/C++.

Specific peripherals made available on the MicroMod RP2040 include 1x USB dedicated for programming and debug which is also Host capable, 2x UARTs, 2x I²C, 2x SPI, 29x GPIO, 2x Digital Pins, 3x Analog Pins, 16x PWM, 128Mbit/16MB external flash memory, a Status LED, and a VIN Level ADC.
