SparkFun MicroMod GNSS Carrier Board (ZED-F9P)

Description Attachments

The SparkFun MicroMod GNSS Carrier Board is a high-precision GPS board that utilizes the ZED-F9P module from u-blox. This state-of-the-art module is capable of providing three-dimensional accuracy of up to 10mm. The board allows you to track the X, Y, and Z location of any object with an accuracy that is roughly the width of a fingernail. The ZED-F9P module is unique as it can function as both a rover and a base station.

The MicroMod GNSS Carrier Board is designed with the user in mind. It features the flexible MicroMod's M.2 connector, which allows for easy testing and swapping of different MicroMod processor boards. This design provides solderless access to the ZED-F9P module's features via UART1, UART2, SPI, and I2C ports. The board also includes two USB-C connectors for power and programming, a 2A resettable fuse and 3.3V/1A voltage regulator for power, and five status LEDs for power, 3.3V, PPS, RTK, and geofencing.

Additional features of the board include two buttons for reset and boot, one SMA connector for a secure antenna connection, and a Qwiic connector to easily add Qwiic enabled I2C devices to your projects. A rechargeable backup battery is included to keep the latest module configuration and satellite data available for up to two weeks, dramatically decreasing the time-to-first-fix. The ZED-F9P module also features a survey-in mode, allowing the module to become a base station and produce RTCM 3.x correction data.

The ZED-F9P module offers a multitude of configuration options. You can adjust geofencing, variable I2C address, variable update rates, and even increase the high precision RTK solution to 20Hz. The MicroMod GNSS carrier board also features five communications ports, four of which are all active simultaneously: USB-C, UART1, UART2 for RTCM reception, I2C, and SPI.

SparkFun has developed an extensive Arduino library for u-blox modules, making it easy to read and control the MicroMod GNSS carrier board over the MicroMod's I2C bus. This lightweight binary interface eliminates the need for constant serial polling and allows you to read latitude, longitude, heading, and speed over I2C.

Please note that this product requires an antenna. Be sure to select a suitable SMA antenna for your project.

MicroMod is a modular interface ecosystem that connects a microcontroller “processor board” to various “carrier board” peripherals. The MicroMod standard, which utilizes the M.2 standard, is designed to easily swap out processors and function boards on the fly. This allows you to pair a specialized carrier board for your project with your choice of compatible processor.

The product is compatible with u-blox® PointPerfect and includes a redemption code for 1-month of unlimited access for a single device. This allows you to take your precision to the next level with the PointPerfect GNSS augmentation service. A promotional card with a 16 digit referral code is included with your SparkFun packaging. If you purchased this product prior to January 2023 and would like to receive a redemption code, please reach out to SparkFun support with your order number.
