SparkFun LTE GNSS Function Board - SARA-R5

The SparkFun SARA-R5 LTE GNSS Function Board is a powerful development tool that combines the functionality of u-blox's UBX-R5 cellular chipset and M8 GNSS receiver chipset. This versatile tool, compatible with the MicroMod Ecosystem, provides a 5G-Ready wireless IoT device with accurate positioning data. As an asset tracker, it offers Secure Cloud LTE-M communication and an integrated u-blox M8 GNSS receiver for multi-regional use.

The UBX-R5 chipset supports a wide range of data communication forms, from full TCP/IP sockets and packet switched data, to HTTP Get/Put/Post, FTP, ping, and even SMS text messaging. The integrated u‑blox M8 GNSS receiver ensures accurate positioning, with a separate GNSS antenna interface for an external antenna. The LTE GNSS Function Board also includes a nano SIM card slot and a pair of u.FL connectors for the GNSS antenna and LTE connections.

The board uses the M.2 MicroMod connector for easy connection to your system without the need for soldering. It also provides access to the UART with a Processor Board, and diagnostic purposes, the USB pins are broken out to a USB-C connector. Status LEDs and a button for LTE Power On are also included for convenience and ease of use.

The SparkFun SARA-R5 LTE GNSS Function Board measures 37.49mm x 61.00mm and weighs 8.05g. It operates within an input voltage range of 3.7V to 6.0V and an I/O voltage of 3.3V and 1.8V for LTE. Other features include a 6V/2A resettable fuse, ESD protection diodes for USB data lines, 3.3V voltage regulators, I²C pull-up resistors, an I²C EEPROM, and several jumpers for various functions.
