The SparkFun GPS-RTK Dead Reckoning Kit (u.FL) provides all the essentials to harness the power of u-blox's ZED-F9R and GPS Real Time Kinematics. Featuring a high-precision, sensor fusion GPS board, it leverages u-blox's Automotive Dead Reckoning (ADR) technology to deliver highly accurate and continuous positioning by integrating a 3D IMU sensor, wheel ticks, a vehicle dynamics model, correction data, and GNSS measurements.

The ZED-F9R module boasts an 184-channel u-blox F9 engine GNSS receiver, capable of receiving signals from GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou constellations with approximately 0.2-meter accuracy. This level of precision is achievable using an RTK navigation solution in conjunction with a correction source. Note that the ZED-F9R operates solely as a rover and requires connection to a base station. It supports concurrent reception of four GNSS systems and delivers real-time positioning rates up to 30Hz.

This breakout board excels in providing accurate positioning even in dense urban environments or areas with poor signal conditions. It ensures continuous positioning during short signal losses, such as in tunnels or parking garages, making it ideal for autonomous robotic applications requiring reliable positioning in challenging conditions.

The u-blox receiver supports I²C (referred to as Display Data Channel by u-blox), making it perfect for Qwiic compatibility, thus preserving UART ports. Utilizing the Qwiic system, no soldering is required for integration with other components. However, 2.54mm-spaced pins are available for those who prefer using a breadboard.

Configuring u-blox-based GPS products is straightforward with the u-center Windows program, despite its complexity. The ZED-F9R allows configuration of various functions such as baud rates, update rates, geofencing, spoofing detection, external interrupts, SBAS/D-GPS, and more, all manageable through the SparkFun Arduino Library.

The SparkFun ZED-F9R GPS Breakout includes an onboard rechargeable battery, which powers the RTC on the ZED-F9R, reducing the time-to-first fix from a cold start (~24s) to a hot start (~2s). This battery maintains RTC and GNSS orbit data without external power for extended periods.

This kit also includes a GNSS multiband antenna, a reversible USB-A to C cable, and an SMA to U.FL cable. The antenna features a magnetic base and supports the L1 and L2 GPS bands. The included cables facilitate easy connections within the kit.
