The smôl Power Board LiPo is a compact, intelligent power board that is part of Sparkfun's smôl ecosystem. This board is equipped with an MCP73831 Li-Ion and Li-Polymer charger, a MAX17048 I²C fuel gauge, and an AVR ATtiny841 microcontroller. The smôl Power Board LiPo controls the 3.3V power for the entire smôl stack, allowing the processor board to instruct it to put the entire stack into deep sleep for intervals ranging from tens of milliseconds to several days. This reduces the current draw to just 6µA, extending your battery life from days to months.
The smôl Power Board LiPo is perfect for applications such as wildlife tracking or long-term discrete monitoring due to its small size and low current draw. The smôl ecosystem is designed to be compact, with boards stacking one on top of the other and using 16-way 0.5mm-pitch Flexible Printed Circuits (FPCs) for interconnectivity. The smôl Power Board LiPo is a truly compact solution for your next project.
The smôl Power Board LiPo features a MCP73831 charger with a charge current of 100mA when USB power is connected. The MAX17048 fuel gauge and ATtiny841 8-bit AVR Microcontroller with 8KBytes Flash, 512Bytes EEPROM, and 512Bytes SRAM are also included. The board's power regulation includes smôl 3.3V and ATtiny841 3.3V. The sleep current draw is 6µA with the ATtiny841 in Power-Down Mode.
The smôl Power Board LiPo measures 40.6mm in length, 10.7mm in width, and a maximum of 7.4mm in height. It weighs just 1.4g and has a PCB thickness of 0.8mm. The interface is I²C with the ATtiny841 default address at 0x50 and the MAX17048 Fuel Gauge address at 0x36. The power board pulls PROC_PWR_EN low to disable the regulator on the processor board.
Documentation for the smôl Power Board LiPo includes a Schematic, Eagle Files, a Hookup Guide, a GitHub Hardware Repo, and a SparkFun smôl Power Board Arduino Library with Arduino Examples. Datasheets for the MCP73831 charger, the MAX17048 fuel gauge, and the ATtiny841 microcontroller are also available.
