SMD LED - RGB WS2812B (Whole Reel)

The Sparkfun SMD LED - RGB WS2812B (Whole Reel) is a unique and compact LED that is more than just a light source. This LED is a 5050-sized (5x5mm) with an integrated control circuit embedded within, making it a smart LED. A reel contains 1000 pieces, making it suitable for those who require them in bulk. The LED features a tiny black chip and minuscule gold wires that connect the chip to the LED. The 'B' at the end of the WS2812 denotes that these LEDs only require four pins instead of the usual six, making them easier to use.

The WS2812B is not your average RGB (Red/Green/Blue) LED. It offers adjustable brightness for each color through a serial string to one of 256 different levels. This means it can produce up to 16,777,216 (2563) possible combinations of colors, allowing you to create any color from white to black (off), or salmon to sienna.

Each LED has a viewing angle of 120 degrees. The red color has a wavelength of 620-625nm and brightness of 390-420mcd at 2.0-2.2V. The green color has a wavelength of 522-525nm and brightness of 660-720mcd at 3.0-3.4V. Lastly, the blue color has a wavelength of 465-467nm and brightness of 180-200mcd at 3.0-3.4V. All these features are packed into a 4-pin design.
