This BH1750 light intensity sensor breakout board features a 16-bit AD converter that outputs a direct digital signal, eliminating the need for complex calculations. Unlike traditional photoresistors that merely produce a voltage requiring conversion to useful data, this sensor delivers precise measurements in Lux (Lx), providing a straightforward reading of light intensity.
The BH1750 offers greater accuracy and simplicity in monitoring light conditions. When light strikes a surface evenly, with a luminous flux of 1 lux per square meter, the light intensity is precisely 1 Lx. For enhanced illumination, a reflector can be used to concentrate luminous flux in specific directions, increasing the target surface's illumination.
Consider various lighting scenarios: nighttime can range from 0.001 to 0.02 Lx, moonlit nights from 0.02 to 0.3 Lx, and cloudy indoor conditions from 5 to 50 Lx. Cloudy outdoor settings range from 50 to 500 Lx, while sunny indoor conditions fall between 100 and 1000 Lx. On a summer afternoon, direct sunlight can be as strong as 1,000,000 Lx. For activities like reading, a light intensity of 50 to 60 Lx is ideal, whereas 1,400 Lx is preferred for home video settings.
