Pimoroni BME688 4-in-1 Air Quality Breakout (Gas, Temperature, Pressure, Humidity)

The super-smart BME688 air quality sensor measures temperature, pressure, and humidity with precision and offers an AI-enhanced gas scanner. Its upgraded functionality can react to changes in volatile organic compounds, volatile sulfur compounds, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen, providing a comprehensive air quality assessment for both indoor and outdoor environments.

Using Bosch's software, the gas readings can be further analyzed to make inferences about specific air quality indicators, like the likelihood of bacteria growth. Ideal for assessing ventilation in various settings, the BME688 can be integrated with home automation systems or web services like adafruit.io and freeboard.io.

The sensor is compatible with the Breakout Garden system, Qwiic/STEMMA QT connectors, and a range of microcontrollers and HATs. It supports both 3.3V and 5V systems and offers reverse polarity protection. Additionally, it can be used with Raspberry Pi and Arduino, providing versatile options for integration and monitoring efforts.

The BME688 kit includes a breakout board, a 1x5 male header, and a 1x5 female right-angle header, designed for easy connection to the Raspberry Pi GPIO header. It minimizes radiated heat by positioning the breakout away from the Pi’s CPU.

Bosch provides a C library for the sensor, and an updated BME688 Python library ensures seamless integration with other boards for real-time air quality visualization. The breakout works with Raspberry Pi Pico and other RP2040 boards using C++ or MicroPython.

Note that the sensor requires a burn-in period and some time to stabilize initially. I2C addresses can also be modified, providing flexibility for simultaneous sensor operation. Dimensions are approximately 19mm x 19mm x 5mm, including the connector.
