The SparkX Power Meter - ACS37800 (Qwiic) is perfect for monitoring power drawn by a 3D-printer, UAV battery, during battery charging/conditioning, and even for solar or photovoltaic panel power monitoring. It utilizes Allegro's Hall-effect-based, galvanically isolated current sensing technology, which achieves reinforced isolation ratings in a small PCB footprint. This allows for isolated current sensing without the need for expensive coils, transformers, operational amplifiers, or the power loss of shunt resistors.
The ACS37800 power monitoring IC offers key power measurement parameters that can be accessed through its digital interface. It provides dedicated and configurable I/O pins for voltage/current zero crossing, undervoltage and overvoltage reporting, and fast overcurrent fault detection. The IC can be configured by the user through on-chip EEPROM.
The Arduino library provided by Sparkfun simplifies the integration of the ACS37800 into your project. There is also a configuration example that allows you to examine and change all of the ACS37800’s settings through the IDE Serial Monitor or a terminal emulator.
Please note that this product is not suitable for low current applications due to the +/-0.1A RMS Noise on the ACS37800’s current channel. Also, while the ACS37800 power monitoring IC is capable of monitoring AC power at high line voltages, the SparkX Power Meter is designed for Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) applications of up to 60VDC only. Its use in AC power systems is not recommended or condoned.
The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System, an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields and cables, is used in all Qwiic-enabled boards. It has a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector which reduces the amount of required PCB space, and polarized connections mean you can’t hook it up wrong.
The SparkX Power Meter - ACS37800 (Qwiic) is part of SparkX products which are rapidly produced to bring you the most cutting edge technology as it becomes available. These products are tested but come with no guarantees. Live technical support is not available for SparkX products.
Key features of the SparkX Power Meter - ACS37800 (Qwiic) include an Allegro MicroSystems ACS37800 with UL 60950-1 (ed. 2) and UL 62368-1 (ed. 1) certification, reinforced isolation up to 517 VRMS, 0.85 mΩ primary conductor resistance for low power loss, compatibility with floating and non-floating GND, 1 kHz bandwidth, current sensing range up to +/- 30 A, and two 6mm through-holes for high current connections.
