QTR-1A Reflectance Sensor (2-Pack)
Description Attachments
The Pololu QTR-1A reflectance sensor carries a single infrared LED and phototransistor pair. The phototransistor is connected to a pull-up resistor to form a voltage divider that produces an analog voltage output between 0 V and VIN (which is typically 5 V) as a function of the reflected IR. Lower output voltage is an indication of greater reflection.

JasperTIt was super easy to integrate these with my existing Arduino setup, and they respond well to different types of surfaces. I do notice that you really have to play around with the placement and angle for optimal results, but that is to be expected. What really struck me was how stable the output was, which saved a lot of hassle when tuning my code. Highly recommended if you are involved in robotics or automation at a hobby level. Not perfect, but definitely worth it for the price and flexibility they offer.
